If buying the Washington Commanders is a little bit out of your league – when Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is interested, its probably out of most people’s leagues – then maybe buying some of the franchise’s history might fit the bill.
Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, Friday announced the kickoff of Farewell RFK Stadium, a project to celebrate and honor the legacy of the District of Columbia sports and concert venue, while also sharing updates regarding ongoing demolition activities.
To launch the campaign, fans of the Washington’s NFL team, which called RFK Stadium home for 35 years, will have chance to purchase seats from the stadium.
An initial selection of orange wooden and plastic seating from the stadium’s lower bowl is now available for public purchase. Stadium seats can ordered online, with pickup available in-person only on the RFK Campus Dec. 16-18. Seats from the initial sale will be prepared and ready for pickup at a price tag of approximately $350 to $500. Additional seats, including wooden burgundy and gold seats from the stadium’s upper bowl and other commemorative merchandise will be available in 2023.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of stadium seats and memorabilia will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington and St. Coletta of Greater Washington.
