For more than 25 years, Gerard Evans has served as one of Annapolis’ top lobbyists, representing a range of high-profile clients including the Baltimore Orioles, Constellation Energy, Verizon Communications and the Maryland Hospital Association.
In 1976, Evans began his career working for Montgomery County Senate Delegation Chair Victor L. Crawford as his top aide. He holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Maryland, a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore and is a current lecturer in the public policy school at the University of Maryland, College Park.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Longstanding, honest relationships are the key to success both in life and politics. It’s a mistake to take anything personally in politics. The same legislator who’s opposing you on an issue today may be an ally on a different issue tomorrow. Try to keep it all in perspective.
What’s been your biggest success?
My biggest success is my family. As with any demanding and high pressure career, it can wreak havoc on a marriage and a family. I have been blessed beyond belief with a patient and understanding wife of 42 years, five wonderful and successful children and eight precious grandchildren. I am very proud of the family I have amassed and thank God for them every day.
What are your hopes for the state or your community this year?
I am extremely hopeful that Governor Moore will finally realize the goals of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and rescue our public education system here in Maryland.
