As one of the youngest serving members of the Baltimore City Council, Brandon M. Scott was voted unanimously to serve as the City Council President in 2019, and, in 2020, was sworn in as the 52nd Mayor of Baltimore.
Scott, a native Baltimorean, has spent his career working to improve the city. He began his service career working as a program specialist for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Maryland, where he recruited, screened and trained mentors for school-based mentoring programs. He represented Northeast Baltimore as a Community Outreach Liaison in the Office of the City Council President and as a Neighborhood Liaison in the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods. He worked in the Baltimore City Recreation and Parks as a Recreation Neighborhood Specialist. At the age of 27, he was elected to City Council, the youngest serving member. He sat on the Budget and Appropriations, Labor and Recreations and Parks committees. He served as the Vice Chair of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.
As mayor, Scott has focused on improving public safety, reducing violence and rebuilding trust in government with a major emphasis on working collaboratively with local, City, State and Federal partners and agencies.
In a recent meeting with Gov. Wes Moore and Attorney General Anthony Brown, Scott said, “It is important for us — especially as elected officials — to have candid conversations like this to share perspectives, exchange resources and create solutions that will benefit our residents right now and for generations to come.”
Public safety is our collective responsibility and, at a time when teamwork and coordination are needed more than ever, we are proud to have deep partnerships that will help drive this work forward.”
