James Shoemaker, chief legal operations manager for Miles & Stockbridge has spearheaded the Baltimore firm’s use of data to streamline its services, helping him earn The Daily Record’s Law Firm Innovation honor.
“One of our biggest innovations is using open-source data tools to analyze lawyers’ intake data with client financial statements. The result is Miles & Stockbridge can proactively identify potential budget issues for clients while helping lawyers work more efficiently,” wrote Danny Jacobs who nominated Shoemaker for the award.
Shoemaker, whose job is to scope pricing for legal services, has used this information to realign project budgets. His proactive approach has led to repeat customers wrote Jacobs.
Shoemaker, who was promoted to his new role earlier this year, previously served as the firm’s senior director of legal operations and director of pricing and matter management.
“He oversees a department that includes client intake, litigation support and research who all work together to help in nearly every stage of the client engagement life cycle,” Jacobs wrote. “His team continues to help us find ways we can work even better for our clients.”
