Leading the human resources effort for Kramon & Graham in Baltimore is an experienced and compassionate manager who earned The Daily Record’s Law Firm Support Staff leadership award.
Katelyn Schmidt, director of human resources for the Baltimore firm, joined Kramon & Graham a few months after its offices were forced to close due to the pandemic, a chaotic time for many organizations.
“But Katy was a rock — a steady hand on the wheel who helped navigate K&G’s attorneys and staff through a very challenging time,” wrote Mary Ellen Chambers, who nominated Schmidt for The Daily Record honor. “Her efforts enabled the rest of the firm to keep its full focus on client work. When our offices reopened, Katy was vital in addressing hybrid working arrangements, establishing work policies and building a solid cohesive team. All the while, Katy advanced important initiatives as the firm’s first dedicated HR professional.”
Schmidt identified cost savings for the firm and improvements in delivery of firm benefits, Chambers wrote.
Prior to joining Kramon & Graham, Schmidt worked for a multinational hospitality company, Choice Hotels International, as manager of benefits design and services. She has worked in human resources for nearly 30 years spanning jobs with Amerix Corporation and Total Focus HR Solutions.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College in business and French.
“Katy is an exceptionally dedicated and compassionate human resources professional. She keeps morale high, and workers engaged. She is a delight to work with,” wrote Chambers.
