The first woman to lead the Baltimore City Civil Rights office and the founder and CEO of Justis Connection, Kisha Brown has established herself as a dogged civil rights attorney and social entrepreneur, earning The Daily Record’s Justice Champion honor.
Brown founded Justis Connection to empower the Black community with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities and with access to legal services provided by top Black attorneys. Her online referral platform helps connect Black attorneys with Black clients in need.
Brown said, “Justice is the fundamental cornerstone of democracy. It is the birthright of the African throughout the Diaspora.”
She says on the Justis Connection website, “I love being able to serve as a bridge to the legal world. Most people do not know a lawyer and are intimidated by the law. In this country, the Black experience in particular has been wrought with oppression and injustice. So, seeing someone who looks like them explain the law, answer questions and stand as a resource has been tremendous for the people we serve.”
Brown, a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Wellesley College, previously served as director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Legislative division and its civil rights department.
She is a past president and member of several area bar associations and serves on the executive board of Coppin State University.
