An attorney at the Rockville-based law firm of Stein, Sperling, Bennet, De Jong, Driscoll since 2018, Matthew Pavlides has deep experience in business disputes and complex commercial and construction litigation.
He has worked with clients on matters ranging from large commercial matters to far smaller personal ones, settling disputes through mediation, arbitration and litigation.
He represents general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, engineering firms and business owners in a wide range of construction-related projects.
Pavlides, who earned his bachelor’s degree at the College of William & Mary in 1986 and his law degree at the University of Florida in 1989, prides himself on his accessibility to his clients. His goal as an attorney as he put it on the firm’s website, is to help clients “get back to doing what they want to do with their lives.”
Pavlides has been honored annually as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in Maryland for the past four years, a Best Lawyer for the past five years and a Maryland Super Lawyer for the past 12 years.
Away from the office, Pavlides has served for four decades as legal counsel to the Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center, in western Howard County. A nonprofit charity, the center provides equine therapy to children and adults with special needs or profound developmental challenges, and to wounded warriors and first responders in need of mental health services.
“Matthew Pavlides exemplifies the award criteria by his dedication and devotion with his charitable involvement for 40 years,” wrote Dr. Helen Tuel who founded the center 40 years ago along with her husband, and remains its founding director, in nominating Pavlides for this award.
Pavlides, she wrote, “has been unequivocally devoted … and has been dedicated to our families and available at all times.”
Before joining Stein, Sperling, Pavlides was managing partner at the Rockville office of Miles and Stockbridge and co-chairman of the firm’s 80-lawyer Commercial Litigation Group.
