When he was named the 15th president of Frostburg State University in 2016, Ronald Nowaczyk brought four decades of experience to the western Maryland school.
A graduate of Miami University of Ohio, where he earned both a master’s degree and a doctorate in psychology, Nowaczyk began his career as a professor in the department of psychology at Clemson University, where he held a succession of faculty positions through 1998.
He has continued to teach throughout his administrative career, which includes a stint as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clarion University, in Pennsylvania, and another as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Haven.
In Maryland, Nowaczyk is on the boards of directors of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and Bishop Walsh School, where he is board chair, and on the education committees for the Allegany Chamber and The Greater Cumberland Committee.
Nationally, he has been a visiting scientist at the Langley Research Center and is a member of the American Association of State Colleges & Universities Committee on Sustainable Development.
After taking over at Frostburg State, Nowaczyk developed a comprehensive strategic plan for the school, which is now being implemented. He also has worked to improve student success, strengthen the communication and governance process on campus and enhance outreach with communities in western Maryland.
