Corren Johnson

Interim Director
Baltimore City Department of Transportation

What is your most significant accomplishment?

I’m most proud of being the first African American Woman to serve as District Engineer for the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration, directly leading and managing construction, maintenance, operations, and elected official/public engagement for Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.

Please share an example of mentoring.

Since 2012, I have been a mentor in the Baltimore Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Transportation You program at Patterson High School. This program is a hands-on mentoring program that introduces and encourages high school girls to explore careers in transportation. The mission of Transportation YOU is to develop the next generation of the transportation industry by growing the involvement and interest of girls and young women in science, technology, engineering and math studies and more. Through our after-school meetings and field trips, we work to make a difference in their lives by building confidence and expanding their exposure to transportation career opportunities.
