Most Significant Accomplishment:
I have dedicated my career to improving the health of populations. Whether focused on women’s health. health of those who are low income and uninsured. or the health of entire countries, my satisfaction comes from improving systems that will – for the long term – give access to high quality healthcare, when needed, where needed, affordably, and in a welcoming manner that empowers individuals to live their healthiest lives.
Though I am proud of many accomplishments in my professional career, I hold as my most significant accomplishment the introduction of quality assurance, quality improvement and health information technology to the Egyptian national healthcare system and the mentoring of local staff in project and team management to ensure long-term sustainability of the operational gains.
As the in-country Director of two USAID funded programs, we brought technology to hospitals and clinics that vasty improved the quality or care, contained costs, and improved services to over 50 million Egyptians served under the national health insurance program through nationally owned hospitals, pharmacies and clinIcs. Our success included automating pharmacy inventory to significantly reduce expiry and waste of pharmaceuticals, implementing an electronic health record and patient management system at clinIcs and hospitals throughout the country and building champions and expertise among the medical staff for quality assurance and quality improvement activities to ensure high quality of care for patients.
For my in-country staff of over 60 Egyptian colleagues, I modeled inclusive, team-based management techniques. | served as a mentor and role model to women for succeeding in leadership roles. And I built a team with the technical, managerial and relationship-sustaining skills needed to sustain the operations long after my years in-country ended.
