What is your most significant personal accomplishment?
This year was the 25th Anniversary of my mother’s passing from breast cancer. This stirred a fire in me to give back. My original goal was to raise $25,000 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation, and I knew I had to get creative to reach this milestone. I raffled tickets for a beach house stay, set up a booth with free survivor tokens outside of stores to speak with survivors personally, and shared my story alongside my 10-year-old daughter Maddie on Baltimore’s WMAR-TV station. I am extremely proud to say that I was named the No. 1 Top Fundraiser by doubling my initial goal and raising $50,000 for the organization.
Please share a story of one of your mentoring experiences.
The House of Ruth Maryland (HRM) offers an elective mentorship program to their board members that provides a chance to mentor a HRM staff member directly. I was eager to participate and was quickly paired with a team member for this six-week program. We discuss career development goals, problem-solve challenges that arise and strategize the next steps in their roles at the organization. I have had such a pleasure connecting with my mentee, that we continue to meet now, long after the program is complete. It is especially rewarding to know that I am expanding the ways that I’m able to support those facing intimate partner violence, both directly with our efforts for HRM and indirectly through the team members serving these women and children each day.
