What is your most significant accomplishment?
My most significant accomplishment to date is being appointed as a circuit court judge for St. Mary’s County. After practicing law as a litigator for 20 years, I felt very fortunate to be given the opportunity to serve the St. Mary’s County legal community in a new capacity. I understand that am generally seeing people at times of conflict in their lives and I want to help ensure access to justice and confidence in the judiciary.
Prior to being appointed, I took great pride in managing a law firm through the COVID-19 pandemic. As managing partner of Cumberland & Erly LLC, I took the steps necessary to maintain continuous service to our clients throughout the pandemic including incorporating cloud-based software programs and implementing new technology.
Our attorneys and staff were able to continue participating in court hearings and maintain contact with our clients even while working remotely. This enabled us to provide our clients with a high level of service and uninterrupted access to the justice system even at such a challenging time.
