Most Significant Accomplishment:
Professionally, it is being elected to serve on the Charles County Board of Education for District 4 by my constituents. I was then elected Vice Chair by my fellow Board members. As the first generation in my family raised and educated in the United States, many of my experiences have been self-taught. Education has been at the center of all of my accomplishments and remains one of the primary factors for my success. I have been an involved and passionate parent, PTO officer, foster parent, and best interest attorney for many years. One of the causes I am most dedicated to is children’s education and overall advocacy.
Example of Mentoring:
I have served as a mentor to many law students and young attorneys beginning with my time as a Young Lawyer’s Division Scholar and Fellow with the American Bar Association. I have also mentored young and aspiring lawyers, particularly women, both through my alma mater, Pepperdine Law School, and via moot court competition preparations, coaching, and judging.
I have worked with several Black Law Students Associations in both California and Maryland to mentor and encourage law students, including with career advice and networking skills. My mentoring experience also extends to teens, and for several years I have mentored teens through both my Jack and Jill and Top Teens Chapters, especially those seeking assistance with their college and career preparations.
Most Significant Personal Accomplishment:
My most significant personal accomplishment is being a five-year breast cancer survivor, advocate and volunteer. Since overcoming breast cancer in 2018, I have shared my story, donated hundreds of hours, and raised thousands of dollars for several breast cancer organizations, including Susan G. Komen. I hope through my candor and transparency to alleviate some of the fears and concerns that women battling breast cancer face. I am currently collaborating on a book with other breast cancer “thrivers” that we plan to publish in October 2023 to raise funds for breast cancer survivors.
