Amazon announced Tuesday it is hiring 250,000 employees nationwide in full-time, seasonal and part-time roles across its operations network, including 9,000 new jobs added to the Maryland economy.
The e-commerce giant expects to hire more than 7,500 employees for its fulfillment facility in Baltimore, more than 650 in Hagerstown and more than 400 workers in Prince George’s County.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $13.5 billion in Maryland, including infrastructure and compensation to employees and has created more than 25,000 direct jobs in the state, according to the company’s 2023 Economic Impact Report provided by Keystone Strategy, a third-party consultancy. These investments support an additional 18,900 indirect jobs across the state in fields such as construction and professional services and have contributed more than $12 billion to the Maryland GDP, on top of the company’s direct investments.
Jobs in Amazon’s operations network include stowing, picking, packing, sorting, shipping customer orders and more. These roles can be the start of a long-term career inside or outside the company. The flexibility of the jobs available come with a wide range of hours and starting wages of between $17 and $28 per hour, depending on position and location in the U.S.
In 2023, Amazon has added new benefits, including a new emergency savings program and a financial assistance pilot program that has helped save fulfillment and transportation employees nearly $20 million.
