14 groups win Baltimore Mayor’s Business Recognition Awards

The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), Baltimore Development Corporation and Baltimore Mayor’s Office Monday announced the winners of the 49th Annual Mayor’s Business Recognition Awards, which honors organizations with an active presence in Baltimore that have demonstrated significant leadership and commitment to improving the quality of life in the city.

The 14 winners of this year’s award are B&O Railroad Museum, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Elocin Global Logistics, Hon’s Honey, No Struggle No Success, Northern Real Estate Urban Ventures, Parity Homes, Pimlico Merchant Association, TEDCO, The BIT Center, UnitedHealthcare, The Verve Partnership / Educators Support Collaborative and Women of Valor Inc.

The GBC this year revamped the annual awards program to highlight companies and organizations exemplifying at least one of the following five categories:

  • Economic opportunity: a business or organization that has taken innovative approaches to hiring local or supporting small business opportunities.
  • Ambassador for Baltimore Region:  recognizing a business or organization that celebrates our city and region.
  • Local investment: a business or organization that is investing heavily in the city and region creating jobs and capital investment to grow our economy.
  • Supporting safe and vibrant communities: a business or organization investing in safe and cleaner communities.
  • Community redevelopment: a business or organization driving redevelopment of underserved communities.

The GBC introduced its multiyear agenda at its May annual meeting, the first since the GBC’s merger with the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore. The agenda includes 12 initiatives to support the organization’s combined role in shaping the region’s econonmic future and driving collective impact for the more than 500 businesses and organizations committed to the region. The initiatives focus on the critical areas of economic opportunity, transportation and infrastructure and collective impact.

The winners will be celebrated at an event Dec. 13 at M&T Bank Exchange at the France Merrick Performing Arts Center, 12 N. Eutaw St., in Baltimore.
