Roggenart Bakery Bistro and Café opened the doors on its fifth Maryland location Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in City House Charles at 1001 N. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Local community leaders, including Charles Street Development Executive Director Kristin Speaker, Mount Vernon Belvedere Association President Jack Danna and Midtown Community Benefits District President Eric Souza, joined owners Neman Popov and Brody Tennant for the opening in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood.

Roggenart’s Baltimore location joins existing eateries in , Ellicott City, Savage Mill and Towson. The café also recently expanded to Arlington, Virginia and Chicago.

The eatery is expected to become a catalyst for efforts to revitalize the Mt. Vernon neighborhood, a business community still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 shutdown. It is moving into the space which had been previously occupied by night club Grand Central for the past 30 years. The property was purchased by Connecticut-based private equity fund Landmark Partners, which set the plan in motion to build the eight-story, 2,500-square-foot City House Charles.
