is the founder and owner of Diva Law LLC, a thriving woman-owned law firm established in February 2018. As an immigrant from India, Potdar has achieved the American dream at 36 years old, leading a successful practice where all employees have always been women.
Her firm, 100% minority woman-owned, has grown steadily, with revenues reaching $750,000 in 2023. Potdar’s accomplishments include being appointed chair of the Judicial Nomination Commission for Baltimore by Gov. Wes Moore. She is dedicated to mentoring young women in law and supporting female entrepreneurs, embodying the spirit of empowerment and diversity in the legal profession.
What does it mean to you to be a women-owned business?
I started Diva Law in February 2018. I am an immigrant woman from India who could never have imagined being a business owner. Six years later, I am 36 years old, and so thrilled to have a thriving law firm in which 100% of the employees have always been women and the business has always been owned by a minority woman. This is truly the American dream.
What challenges have you faced as a women-owned business?
The legal field is saturated with men, usually Caucasian. Sometimes clients who are from a minority group think a lawyer to best advocate for them may be a white male. Being a young woman can be challenging when dealing with older men as judges and opposing counsel. But as time goes on, I become more and more confident in my ability to effectively and ethically represent my clients in an adversarial business.
