Kelly Mitchell is the founder and principal of impactHR LLC, a woman-owned business established in 2006 that provides human resources and business solutions across various industries. With 18 years in business and 100% women ownership, impactHR has grown into a thriving company under Mitchell’s leadership.

Her accomplishments include receiving the 2022 Torch Award for Ethics from the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland. Mitchell is passionate about mentoring women and supporting charitable organizations. She serves on the Howard County Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Leadership Conference Committee and has been involved in Girl Scouts as an adult leader.

What does it mean to you to be a women-owned business?

As a woman-owned business leader, I continue to believe that this dynamic centers on giving back to my community and supporting other women professionals. At impactHR, we support a wide range of charitable organizations. We have volunteered at the Howard County Food Bank to enable self-sufficiency among low-income families, especially single mothers. We have also supported the United Way of Central Maryland’s Project Homeless Connect, aiding Baltimore-area families in employee skill development.

What challenges have you faced as a women-owned business?

Over the course of my professional career, launching impactHR remains my most significant challenge. I started my company during a tough economic downturn in 2006, and over the past 18 years, have grown it into a thriving, profitable company. Through that downturn period, and several subsequent periods of market turbulence, I am beyond grateful for the faith our clients place in us to help them thrive in a competitive business community.
