Ted Millspaugh
Chair of Real Estate Group
Venable LLP
Ted Millspaugh has dedicated his career to building a national practice that spans coast to coast.
As chair of Venable LLP’s real estate group, Millspaugh leads approximately 80 lawyers nationwide, representing some of the country’s top real estate institutions, including Capital Petroleum Group, Strategic Financial Management, Realterm Logistics and Hekemian Development.
“Whatever your profession is, practice it with the broadest mindset possible to enable yourself to develop the most disparate talents and experiences and apply them to your day-to-day business,” Millspaugh said.
A Baltimore native, Millspaugh has lived within city limits for 57 years, leaving only to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree and the University of Virginia for his law degree. He joined Venable in 2010 after practicing for 12 years at Piper & Marbury and 12 years at WilmerHale.
Beyond his legal work, Millspaugh remains actively involved in Baltimore’s community organizations. He serves on the board of the historic Green Mount memorial organization and previously served on the board of Roland Park Place, a comprehensive care retirement community, where he participated in three committees: finance, strategic planning and nominating.
Venable’s Baltimore Office Managing Partner Charles J. Morton Jr. said, “He has mentored countless associates, many of whom have become partners. He leads by example and inspires those around him to be their best.”
His professional memberships include the Real Estate Roundtable, Urban Land Institute and Maryland Bar’s Real Property Section. He previously served on the Maryland State Bar Committee on Opinions in Commercial Transactions and the Advisory Board of Chicago Title Insurance Company.
Millspaugh and his wife of 39 years reside in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood, where they are active in the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association and Federal Hill Main Street nonprofit organization. He is particularly passionate about Little Hearts United, a Maryland organization that supports young children impacted by gun violence and offers nationally recognized CPR/AED and first aid training programs.
Throughout his career, Millspaugh has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for real estate law, Legal 500 and Chambers USA, DC Real Estate.
