The Daily Record wins 12 MDDC Awards, including one Best of Show
The Daily Record won 12 awards from the Maryland | Delaware | DC Press Association in the 2024 Editorial and Advertising Contest. The Daily Record won one Best of Show award, which is chosen from all the first-place winners in all divisions, eight first-place awards and three second-place awards.
The Daily Record competes in Division B, the second-largest category based on total audience numbers.
The Best of Show award was in the Custom Publication category for the Way to Be magazine that is produced in a partnership with Maryland Business Roundtable for Education.
First-place winners included Brian Compere in General Social Media Reporting for live tweeting the Eye on Annapolis event; Jack Hogan in Investigative Reporting for his story “A place for ‘men of means’ “; Kathleen Malone, Angelyn Nye and Stella Edwards in Custom Publication for Way to Be; Sloane Brown for Features Video for Off the Record with Sloane Brown: Casey Baynes, Casey Cares Foundation; Madeleine O’Neill, Jack Hogan and Rachel Konieczny in Breaking News for coverage of the Key Bridge collapse; Jack Hogan, Madeleine O’Neill, Rachel Konieczny and Hope Keller in Series for Eye on Annapolis; Ian Round in Local Government for his story “The city’s other opioid battle“; and Kay Kron and Daily Record Staff in Best Event for Influential Marylanders 2024.
Second-place winners included Patrick Brannan and Kathleen Malone in News-driven Special Section for Doing Business in Maryland: Outlook 2025; Thomas Baden Jr. in News Page Design for front page of Key Bridge collapse; and Brian Compere and Daily Record Staff for Website General Excellence.
The contest, governed by the Association’s Editorial and Advertising committees, admitted over 1,620 entries among 86 categories. There are six divisions in the contest, which group member publications into categories governed by total audience numbers, combining print and digital readership. One Best in Show award is given in each category across all divisions. These entries were judged by news media professionals at the Washington State Press Association.
