Credit union offers up to $75K in scholarships for MD students

APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU®), a financial institution serving Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties, announced applications for its annual scholarship program opened Jan. 2.

Through the program, APGFCU will award up to $75,000 in scholarships to multiple students across Baltimore City and its surrounding service area.

The scholarship would benefit students pursuing higher education or career-advancing training. APGFCU accepts applications online at apgfcu.com/scholarship until midnight on Feb. 15, according to the company. 

The credit union’s annual scholarship contest – now in its 29th year – has awarded more than $660,000 to 421 students, according to a release.

“At the heart of our mission is a commitment to empower our members, enrich lives, and lead with purpose in the communities we serve,” APGFCU President and CEO Becky Smith said. 

“Our annual scholarship contest is a cornerstone of that mission and an important part of our work to help build financially secure communities. Education is the key that unlocks potential, and through this program, we have the privilege of reducing educational barriers and helping students achieve their dreams.”

The scholarship program is open only to APGFCU members who meet one of the following criteria the credit union listed:

• High school senior, 18 years of age or younger, anticipating spring 2026 graduation.
• Student enrolled in a college, trade school or certificate program.
• Adult returning to a for-credit college, trade school or certificate program.

APGFCU will select winners based on an original essay, photo or video submission.

Through one of the three aforementioned methods, applicants will share meaningful moments on learning important financial lessons, how it shaped their habits and how they plan to use that knowledge to build a better future for themselves and their community, an APGFCU release says.

The credit union will notify scholarship recipients by April 1. Winners will be recognized at the Credit Union’s 2026 member meeting on April 23.
