Stevenson to dedicate new performing arts center March 31
Stevenson University is preparing to host a dedication ceremony for its new Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center on the afternoon of March 31, school officials announced.
Scheduled to be held at the school’s North Campus at 11200 Ted Herget Way in Owings Mills, the event will be officiated by MPT’s Jeff Salkin and will feature remarks from Sandra Berman, a Stevenson board of trustees member. School faculty, staff, students, alumni and supporters are expected to be in attendance.
The 38,000-square-foot facility will serve as the new home for the arts at Stevenson, according to a release. Berman Family Performing Arts Center’s two performance venues include the Herman and Walter Samuelson Foundation Theater and the Phyllis Cole Friedman Concert Hall.
The performance forums are designated primarily for students in the school’s Theatre and Media Performance, Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising, Film and Moving Image, and music and dance programs. The more than 75 arts and cultural events hosted annually through Stevenson’s Arts Alive! Initiative are also entitled to use the space.
A ribbon cutting will occur before the event concludes with performances by Stevenson students, alumni and Maryland Opera members.
According to a school media advisory, the center will aim to enrich campus life by hosting student theater, music and dance performances in addition to cultural events, fashion shows and guest speakers.
