The United States District Court for the District of Maryland will host its 13th Biennial Bench-Bar Conference on April 24 at the Greenbelt Courthouse, the bench announced.
The three-hour event is themed “Artificial Intelligence and The Practice of Law” and will be held at the Greenbelt Courthouse, located at 6500 Cherrywood Lane in Greenbelt. With Chief Justice Matthew Fader as the keynote speaker, Chief Justice George Russell III will deliver the State of the Court Address.
The conference will feature 13 panelists – a seven-member criminal panel: Paula Xinis (moderator), Matthew J. Maddox, Douglas R.M. Nazarian, Larua Abelson, Brendan Gill, Ranganath Manthripragada and Gabriel Reyes; and a six-member civil panel: Mark S. Saudek (moderator), Lydia K. Griggsby, Ajeml A. Quereshi, Paul W. Grimm, Robert S. Brennen and Vicki Schultz.
“This Conference will provide an in-depth look at the role of Artificial Intelligence in the practice of law. We look forward to addressing this rapidly evolving technology that is touching nearly every area of the practice,” Russell said.
Attendees can expect to learn about AI’s role as a far-reaching tool from the viewpoints of federal and state judges, lawyers and academics, according to a media advisory released by the court. Experts and panelists will also discuss the ethical and practical issues around the use of AI in civil and criminal practice.
Law professors and practitioners, along with district and magistrate judges, will engage with attendees during the panel discussions about the ethical and practical applications of AI in the practice of law.
Registration for the event is open as the court invites attorneys to join the discussion. A 90-minute reception will follow the event.
