Andrew Janet is the managing partner and co-chair of the Sexual Abuse Division at Janet, Janet & Suggs LLC, where he represents victims of negligence and wrongful conduct in sexual abuse cases, high-stakes medical malpractice suits, environmental litigation and other professional negligence matters, both on an individual basis and in class action settings.

Before joining the firm, Janet served as an associate attorney in the litigation department of Cleary Gottlieb, a preeminent international law firm, where he worked at the firm’s New York headquarters on high-profile corporate litigation and investigations where billions of dollars were at stake.

At Janet, Janet & Suggs, Janet has taken a lead role in representing survivors of sexual abuse against priests, churches, dioceses, bishops and orphanages that enabled the abuse and kept it a secret, both in litigation and compensation fund claims. He also took a lead role in advocating for hundreds of survivors in litigation against the University of Southern California regarding allegations of sexual misconduct by former gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall. His efforts on behalf of 139 plaintiffs in that matter helped effectuate an $852 million resolution with USC — the largest known recovery in a sexual abuse case in U.S. history and the largest known personal injury settlement against a university. When the constitutionality of the Maryland Child Victims Act was challenged, Janet was part of the team that successfully defended it, helping survivors seek justice and get their lives back. He also has a special interest in cases involving fraudulent business practices, having gained experience in that area through his work involving litigation over the fraud committed by Bernard Madoff.

Janet earned his law degree from New York University School of Law, where he was named a Robert McKay Scholar, served as an executive editor of the NYU Law Review and became the first NYU School of Law alumnus to have two articles published in the school’s Law Review as a student. He graduated cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and from Gilman School. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, New York, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

Janet has a student theater background and performed in numerous plays and musicals at the University of Pennsylvania. Two works he wrote have been performed in New York: a modern adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s “Ghosts” at the Merchant’s House Museum, which was featured on the Royal Norwegian Embassy’s website, and an operetta chronicling the lives of Gilbert and Sullivan performed by the Village Light Opera Group at an event sponsored by the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of New York.

“I look forward to working every day to continue the mission of serving as a strong advocate for our clients across Maryland and nationwide, as a compassionate, articulate, and impactful representative for those fighting for justice and closure,” Janet said.
