The González Law Firm

Eduardo Gonzalez, an immigration and criminal defense attorney at The González Law Firm in Salisbury, has built his practice on a straightforward conviction: A client deserves to speak with their attorney in their own language. That belief has driven him to learn eight languages over the course of his career — a pursuit that accelerated dramatically during the coronavirus pandemic, when Gonzalez, then fluent in English and Spanish, made a deliberate decision to transform a period of uncertainty into an opportunity for growth. He treated language acquisition as a full-time job, arriving each day at a set time and dedicating himself entirely to expanding his linguistic range. The result is a practice capable of serving a far broader community than before.

Gonzalez has handled more than 3,000 cases over 15 years, representing clients navigating some of the most consequential and fear-laden moments of their lives. He approaches each matter individually, listening carefully and tailoring his counsel to address the specific concerns a client brings through his door. That attentiveness extends to his commitment to honesty — a quality he considers central to effective legal advocacy.

“Immigration law in particular is constantly changing,” Gonzalez said. “We are at a period of time where the law has turned one way, and I feel that it’s my responsibility to be as honest as possible.”

That responsibility does not end at the office door. Gonzalez produces weekly videos to keep the local community informed of shifts in immigration law and participates in forums at churches and nonprofit organizations in the area. He also mentors the next generation of legal professionals.

He hosts college interns and participating in mock trial events to expose aspiring attorneys to both the practice and the business of law. He advises those interested in serving immigrant populations to prioritize learning a second language — a lesson drawn directly from his own experience.

Beyond his local work, Gonzalez is dedicated to serving those in need, primarily on the continent of Africa, reflecting a commitment to advocacy that extends well past his immediate community. He credits a moot court competition with first igniting his passion for the law, drawn in by the back-and-forth of argument and the challenge of reading the fact pattern. Years later, that same drive shapes his approach to a legal landscape that, as he sees it, demands attorneys stay on the vanguard and continually test new approaches to an ever-evolving body of law.
