CCBC to break ground on Welding and Trades Center

Representing a $13.3 million investment in workforce development, the Community College of Baltimore County‘s planned Welding and Trades Center aims to expand the school’s capacity to prepare students for high-demand careers. 

CCBC officials announced a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, marking construction at the college’s Dundalk campus at 7200 Sollers Point Road.

CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis, Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier, local legislators, project funders and CCBC Board of Trustees members are expected to be in attendance, along with the campus community. 

“This new center strengthens CCBC’s commitment to preparing students for well-paying, in-demand careers that are critical to our regional economy,” CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis said in a Monday statement. 

“By expanding access to cutting-edge training facilities, we are helping meet the workforce needs of local industry while opening doors of opportunity for our students.”

Construction is slated to start in May with completion projected for spring 2027, according to school officials, confirming that welding and trades courses will likely launch at the new center in summer 2027.

According to school officials, the building will include a welding laboratory, classroom area, virtual reality lab, locker room, student lounge and a storage yard for equipment. Purposed to support hands-on, industry-aligned training, the facility will also accommodate offices for program administration.

CCBC, Baltimore County and philanthropic partners – including the Baltimore Community Foundation, Radcliffe Foundation, Middendorf Foundation, CCBC Foundation and private donors – are responsible for the Welding and Trades Center’s funding, a school news release says.
