Bank of America Janet Currie Janet Currie is president of Greater Maryland for Bank of America, a role appointed by the company’s CEO that positions her as the local CEO for the region. In that capacity, she is responsible for leading client work, supporting and developing employees, and strengthening communities across the organization’s footprint. Her appointment carries historic significance. Currie is only the second Black woman nationally and the first Black person in the history of the Greater Maryland market, to be named to the position — a milestone she describes as reflecting not only personal achievement but meaningful progress in representation and leadership within the industry. Beyond her professional role, Currie points to a four-week sabbatical as among her most significant personal accomplishments. During that time, she intentionally allowed — and at times pushed — herself to fully disconnect from all professional responsibilities, something she had never done before, not even on vacation. She invested that time in her own well-being through swimming, entertaining friends, attending plays, trying new recipes and traveling. She credits the experience as a meaningful mental reset and takes pride in having prioritized her health and personal fulfillment. Currie’s visibility in the community has drawn many young women to seek her out for mentorship. In one example, she worked with a young woman over several months who had encountered an unexpected career setback that left her questioning her strengths and abilities. Through regular conversations focused on goals, challenges and options, the woman regained clarity and confidence, ultimately securing a new opportunity with a different employer. Today, she is thriving — reenergized by her work and assured in her ability to continue advancing in her career.
