Kathleen Anderson, D.V.M., has been deeply invested in the growth of Fair Hill Training Center — a Maryland landmark — since 1993, helping to cement its reputation as one of the premier thoroughbred training facilities in the United States. As medical director of equine veterinary care at Fair Hill, her most significant professional accomplishment has been actively contributing to the facility’s success and upgrades — most notably spearheading the 2023 reconstruction of the Parlo II facility into a state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment center. The project allowed her to implement innovative, horse-first design elements, including advanced ventilation systems and injury-prevention surfaces, that now serve as a blueprint for modern training centers.

Beyond the physical upgrades to Fair Hill, Anderson is dedicated to the advancements in equine care and safety on a national level. Through her service on the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority Veterinary Advisory Committee and as a witness for Congressional hearings on horse safety, she has worked to ensure that the clinical excellence practiced daily in Maryland informs the welfare standards of the entire racing industry.

Throughout her career, Anderson has placed a heavy emphasis on mentoring the next generation of equine veterinarians. Through Fair Hill’s participation in the Racing Industry Veterinary Student Externship Program, she provides rising veterinarians with more than technical skills, modeling the ethical decision-making and resilience required to succeed in high-performance sports medicine. In 2023, she was inducted into the My Mentor Honor Wall by The Foundation for the Horse — an honor driven by the testimonials and support of the peers and students she has worked with over the years.
