Calibyr Corporation

Maria Jones is the president and CEO of Calibyr Corporation, which she co-founded with the goal of building a company defined by both technical excellence and ethical integrity. She and her co-founder launched Calibyr in their 20s, committed to creating an environment where skilled engineers could do meaningful work in a supportive culture grounded in shared values.

The company’s early years were marked by significant challenges. The coronavirus pandemic began just months after Calibyr’s founding, delaying the company’s ability to pursue government contracts and forcing Jones and her co-founder to press through periods of discouragement and uncertainty. Last year brought additional adversity in the form of federal budget cuts and a record-breaking government shutdown, both of which had a severe impact on the business. Through each setback, Jones adapted her approach while maintaining her commitment to putting employees first — including helping those affected by budget cuts find new opportunities with other trusted companies. Calibyr has been recognized nationally twice as a Best Workplace, and 100% of its employees have chosen to remain with the company throughout its more than four years in active operation.

A graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University, Jones has returned to campus regularly since her first year after graduation to mentor students preparing for careers in technology and entrepreneurship. Her engagements have spanned the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Career Center, the Bolte School of Business and multiple student organizations. She focuses particularly on encouraging young women to pursue careers in technology, drawing on her own experience to help students build confidence and develop the practical tools to go out and make an impact.
