BCR Cyber to launch training for state, local government workers
BCR Cyber, a cybersecurity training and job placement services provider based in the Baltimore area, announced it will launch a Cybersecurity Operational Methods and Education Training (COMET) cohort from May 18 to June 23.
COMET offers Maryland state and local government employees a free opportunity to enhance their cybersecurity expertise as the program seeks to help build skills in IT fundamentals and advanced Governance, Risk and Compliance Applied Fundamentals certification training in hopes of preparing participants for cyber challenges in an ever-evolving field.
The training cohort is funded through the Maryland Department of Labor‘s Employment Advancement Right Now grant, according to a BCR Cyber announcement the company released April 29.
The COMET program focuses on the incumbent and advanced incumbent subsets of the state and local workforce, offering flexible options based on experience and career goals, according to a release.
Incumbent training is a five-week, three-part course designed for building foundational cybersecurity knowledge, covering security operations fundamentals, cyber range simulation and fundamentals of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity.
Advanced incumbent training also spans five weeks but is a two-part course of intensive training on governance, risk and compliance and cyber range practicum. According to BCR Cyber, successful participants will earn a certificate validating readiness for governance, risk and compliance support roles in state and local government.
All incumbent training participants will be Maryland or local government employees, have at least one year of IT and/or cybersecurity experience and aged 18 or older.
Accordingly, advanced incumbent training participants will be state or local government employees aged 18 or older; have completed COMET Incumbent Training or have at least two years of IT/cyber experience; and have a current role in IT, cybersecurity, IT management, compliance, audit or a related function.
Established in 2017, BCR Cyber aims to deliver training solutions to government and commercial clients. Having trained thousands of individuals, most of whom (more than 80 percent) secured employment, a release says.
