Ketamine clinic opens in Columbia

The Mood Center, a ketamine therapy practice based in Annapolis, has opened a new facility in Columbia. 

The expansion was announced Monday followed by an open house event Thursday at the new location at 11055 Little Patuxent Parkway. 

According to a company spokesperson, The Mood Center’s expansion follows a national trend, citing the number of U.S. ketamine clinics skyrocketing from fewer than 100 in 2015 to more than 1,500 in 2026. 

Developed in the 1960s, ketamine was used as a battlefield anesthetic in the Vietnam War and is typically administered clinically in health care settings, according to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

“By choosing Columbia, the center is positioning itself between Baltimore and DC, and will serve a broad audience of individuals who have previously struggled with traditional treatments for depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain,” a company statement says. 

“Ultimately, the move into Columbia is about accessibility and impact. It allows the organization to scale its mission to a larger community, ensuring that more people have the opportunity to move beyond managing symptoms and toward truly reclaiming their lives.”

The drug is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and is commonly used for anesthesia and acute pain in surgical, operative and emergency trauma settings, says a 2024 report published by the Bloomberg School.

Spanning 2,213 square feet, The Mood Center Columbia will offer a variety of services and treatments, including ketamine, Spravato (esketamine/version of ketamine covered by insurance), medication management and more. The Columbia clinic is The Mood Center’s second location.

The facility contains six treatment rooms and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with plans to soon open on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.
