Continental Realty Corp. redeveloping Ocean City shopping center
Continental Realty Corp., a Baltimore-area real estate firm, announced June 5 that it commenced redevelopment activities at the former Ocean Plaza Mall in Ocean City.
The plan looks to transform the property into a nearly 60,000-square-foot grocery-anchored retail shopping center, according to CRC. Located at 9401 Coastal Highway, the Eastern Shore project will include roughly 11,000 square feet of additional in-line retail space as the shopping center will be rebranded as Bayside Shops at 94th.
CRC completed the demolition of the former Roses Discount Stores building earlier this year and is now constructing a new 48,000-square-foot grocery store for tenant ACME Markets, which will operate at its existing location over the course of the construction project before relocating to the new store, a CRC release says.
“Their redevelopment plan is an important investment in North Ocean City and will bring meaningful benefits to our community, including enhanced services, improved accessibility, and renewed vitality to this key corridor,” Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan said in a statement.
“We look forward to working with CRC as this exciting project moves ahead and celebrating the positive impact it will have on our residents, our business community, and our visitors for many years to come.”
CRC acquired Ocean Plaza Mall in 2004. The firm expects the redevelopment project to be complete in late 2026 or early 2027, according to a release.
After purchasing land from CRC, NVR Homes plans to construct townhomes on two sites adjacent to ACME Markets, according to a release.
