Steven D. Silverman built his Baltimore litigation firm from the ground up, and more than three decades later, he continues to lead it as founding and managing partner of Silverman Thompson Slutkin & White. With more than 30 years of legal experience, his practice spans criminal defense, civil litigation, personal injury and victims’ rights in both state and federal courts.

Silverman began his career as an assistant public defender in Baltimore City, where an early and heavy volume of jury trials gave him the foundation he would carry into private practice. He founded the firm in 1994 and has remained an active trial lawyer ever since, representing individuals and businesses in complex and often high-profile matters. His work has spanned a range of industries and clients, while his civil practice has included business disputes, class actions and other multifaceted litigation.

His work has earned recognition from The Best Lawyers in America, Maryland Super Lawyers and The Daily Record, among others. He has also received the University of Baltimore Dean’s Award, which honors a graduate who demonstrates extraordinary service, commitment and dedication to the school.

Two figures have shaped how he approaches the practice. Edward Bennett Williams, who built Williams & Connolly into one of the premier litigation firms in the country, represented the ultimate example of what a lawyer could be. Joseph F. Murphy Jr., who served as chief judge of Maryland’s intermediate appellate court and later the state’s highest court before joining the firm, reinforced the importance of ethics.
