Baltimore gets $7.6 million from Md. for parks and community projects

12-6-17 BALTIMORE, MD- The Board of Public Works unanimously approved $7.6 Million for 11 Baltimore city parks and community projects today. This series of Maryland Department of Natural Resources items includes funding from Program Open Space Local, the Community Parks and Playgrounds Program, and the Baltimore City Direct Grant. The full amount breaks down to $1.5 million to the citywide Baltimore Park System, $2.4 million to the Cahill Fitness and Wellness Center, $500k to Clifton Park Improvements, $300k to the Druid Park Trail Head, $771, 847 to the Druid Hill Reptile House Renovation, $200k for Frederick B. Leidig Recreation Center improvements, $750k for Gwynns Falls Maintenance Yard renovation, $300k for Gwynns Falls atheletic fields, $400k for Herring Run improvements, $300k for Patterson Park improvements, and $190k for the Violetville Park playground.(The Daily Record/Maximilian Franz)

PHOTO: Sending ‘Bags of Love’ to Puerto Rico

Baltimore based entrepreneurs and Puerto Rican natives Diana Torruella Gaines of Tu Casa Development Group, Left, and Elda M. Devarie, President and CEO of EMD Sales, Inc have teamed up to ship about 450,000 pounds of donated goods to Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria's devastation back in September. Their current effort is to ship 1,500 holiday care packages through the EMD Sales annual "Bags of Love" program to Puerto Rican families by Christmas. The 25-pound packages will consist of a meal to feed a family of 8 to be cooked over an outdoor fire, fresh water, a board game, candy, and a handmade Christmas card made by local elementary school students. The boxes will be assembled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at EMD Sales, Inc. at 2010 Washington Boulevard. Volunteers are welcome.
