Blue Water Baltimore’s Herring Run Nursery specializes in plants native to Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It’s a funky pop-up garden shop located on donated land at the city’s Mt. Pleasant Golf Course.
On offer are more than 250 native species of trees, shrubs, vines, flowers and more for both retail and wholesale customers. Plants vary week to week and season to season.
In addition to plants, the nursery sells organic compost, potting soil and rain barrels. Nursery staff and volunteer master gardeners are on hand during retail sales to provide expert advice on using native plants for all types of gardens and landscapes. All proceeds from sales support Blue Water Baltimore.
Blue Water Baltimore’s mission is to restore the quality of Baltimore’s rivers, streams and harbor to foster a healthy environment, a strong economy and thriving communities.
Baltimore’s waterways have been plagued by trash, toxins, sewage and polluted stormwater. These problems do more than harm our environment; they threaten the health and well-being of residents, communities and local businesses. Blue Water Baltimore works to change this.
The nursery is located between Loch Raven Boulevard and Northern Parkway. Look for nursery signs near the entrance by the stone house.
During normal business hours, parking at the nursery gate is restricted to volunteers and customers with accessibility needs and limited mobility. All other customers should park in marked areas of the Hillen Road parking lot.
