The Ivy Hotel sits in a converted 19th-century mansion in the Mount Vernon area of Baltimore. It’s the only Relais & Chateaux hotel in Maryland and offers a private oasis for its guests.
The hotel features nine suites, nine rooms and luxurious common space. The hotel opened in June 2015. True to its history, staying at The Ivy feels more like staying at a home of a generous friend.
The hotel features a self-service bar that encourages guests to make their own classic cocktails or create a new concoction. The on-site restaurant Magdalena is a newly-updated Maryland bistro, transformed from a French dining concept during a COVID-19 pause.
The hotel closed briefly during the COVID-19 pandemic, using the time to make updates to the building and restaurant, and reopened in October.
The hotel partners with many local people and companies through the hotel. Executive chef Mark Levy helped reimagine the restaurant’s menu and created a culinary experience with an emphasis on local Maryland comfort food and cocktails. While the restaurant experience is different following the brief closure, it maintains the same standards of service and quality.
Amber Croom of And4Dessert provides specialty desserts on the menu, including the Smith Island Cake and other seasonal treats. The coffee comes from Thread Coffee Roasters which is just five blocks from the hotel.
Azola Companies is the co-owner and was the developer and general contractor for the hotel. The family-run business has more than 40 years of experience in adaptive reuse and historic preservation.
