Designer Audiology LLC
A doctor of audiology and president of Designer Audiology in Highland, Alicia D.D. Spoor began her advocacy work with the advice of a mentor. During her year as president of the Maryland Academy of Audiology, the organization helped successfully reverse a prominent insurance company’s attempt to limit patients’ choice of hearing treatments, she said. The next year, she testified for state legislation to ensure the same type of situation wouldn’t be replicated by other insurers.
Spoor has been trying to convince Congress to grant Medicare beneficiaries equal access to the healthcare system, including audiology services. “Working towards this change over the past three years has afforded me the opportunity to share my passion with patients, their family members and friends, physicians in my area, and Congressional leaders and staff,” Spoor said.
At her own office, she’s altered the tradition pricing model of hearing healthcare services by introducing a new unbundled/itemized pricing plan that gives patients pricing transparency and the ability to pay for the devices and services they need at any given money, she said.
“My passion for small business and private practice, for advancing my evolving profession, and for steering the national conversation about issues of audiology” makes her stand out, Spoor said, as well make change.
Spoor is the treasurer of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and co-coordinator of the children’s liturgy program for Baltimore’s Basilica of the Assumption.
