Director of Regulatory Affairs

Maryland Insurance Administration

Over the past two years, Catherine E. Grason participated in more than 20 public events across Maryland and hosted five forums at the Maryland Insurance Administration’s Baltimore office – all to listen to concerns about insurance from consumers, agents and companies.

She and her colleagues then shifted through that feedback and the MIA made policy and operating changes to address the concerns.

It’s all part of the job for the University of Baltimore School of Law graduate, who has been MIA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs since June 2014.

“I am fortunate to work for an organization that is by definition committed to inspiring change in Maryland’s communities,” Grason said. “The MIA exists to protect Maryland’s consumers from unfair business practices and to ensure a fair and competitive insurance market.”

Before working for MIA, Grason was legislative counsel for Aegon/Transamerica Life Insurance, in Baltimore. She still considers her most significant professional accomplishment being offered a leadership position in the company’s government relations operation, even before she took the bar exam.

“My career demonstrates a fast progression in leadership and responsibilities,” she said. “I possess a genuine desire to mentor and feel a responsibility to pay forward the incredible opportunities that I have been given as a young attorney myself.”
