“Inspirational” and “visionary” are not words that Christina Betancourt Johnson said she would use to describe herself. Instead, she sees herself as straightforward leader who believes in respect, celebration and empowerment of those around her, whether they are superiors, peers or direct reports.
“I think if you can stick to that principle as a driving force in your organization and within your daily actions, only good things can come of it,” Johnson said. “By setting an example of respect and valuing others, you in turn create a ripple effect within your organization in which the culture evolves into one of strong respect, mutual support, and collaborative engagement.”
These core values guide her as executive director of Rebuilding Together Montgomery County in Gaithersburg, which partners with state and local governments, volunteers, nonprofits, and corporate partners to provide free critical home repairs, energy efficiency upgrades, and accessibility modifications to residents in critical need of help.
Recently, Johnson said her organization received the 2016 Making a Difference Award from Montgomery County, which honors large nonprofits for their exceptional service delivery and strong office operations.
“I take pride in leading teams of everyday people as they activate their commitment to their community and love for service,” said Johson, who also has served on the boards of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program and Non-Profit Montgomery.
