Markham Law Firm
Jessica Markham was excited to open her own firm in 2015, the Markham Law Firm, a family law practice in Bethesda that serves residents of Maryland and Washington, D.C.
“Having been a young partner in a top local firm, I considered it a personal challenge to be able to start my own firm from the ground up,” Markham said. “I did it with no partners (by choice), bought my own office, renovated it, and hired an amazing, accomplished staff of all women.”
Markham believes strongly that women should be in leadership roles. “For the past 10 years, I noted in the local legal community – especially in the older generations – leadership roles in law firms are dominated by men,” she said. “I believe it is important for women to be business owners and partners in law firms. I am often approached by women who want to start their own businesses or seek leadership roles in their firms. I love speaking to them, helping them feel their goals are attainable, and inspiring them to press ahead.”
Markham volunteers with the Montgomery County Maryland Bar Foundation and the Women’s Bar Association. She has served on the Montgomery County Commission on Juvenile Justice, as a speaker for the Montgomery County Women’s Commission and as a board member for the Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ.
