Joanna L. Diamond
Vice President, External Relations
Planned Parenthood of Maryland
Native Baltimorean Joanna L. Diamond has spent her career working for Maryland nonprofits in order to, as she put it, “give voice to marginalized and undeserved communities.”
Her resume includes stints with the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, Environment Maryland, and most recently, Planned Parenthood of Maryland, where she has been vice president of external relations since March 2015.
Her achievements include helping to pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which requires Maryland businesses to provide safe accommodations for pregnant women, as well as the referendum that legalized same-sex marriage in the state, and in 2015, a law that expanded contraception access for Maryland women.
“In my career, I have been at the forefront of passing important policies that not only better the lives of Marylanders in meaningful ways, but also provide inspiring change for other states to do the same,” said Diamond, a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law.
“Currently … I passionately lead the team that addresses external-facing challenges and opportunities at one of the most attacked organizations in the country,” Diamond said. “Able to defend one of our most fundamental rights, the right to access critical reproductive care, I am in a unique situation and grateful to be doing this work every day.”
