CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield

At CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Nabila Rahman is charged with working toward the goal of helping underserved Maryland residents gain access to more affordable care. That has involved a careful study of the Affordable Care Act, collaboration with state-based marketplace officials and the management of a diverse team.

But the results have been strong and Rahman feels she has been able to grow as a leader.

“I truly believe CareFirst is a leader in the healthcare industry blazing the path for other issuers to make healthcare more affordable,” she said.

Out of the office, Rahman has served as a mentor, volunteer and fundraiser at various Baltimore institutions, including Hajar’s Hope Women’s Center—a women and children’s shelter—the March of Dimes and the Islamic Society of Baltimore.

Growing up in the environment of an all-girls school allowed her to explore who she was without some types of social pressure, she said. “Other young girls in our community do not have the opportunity to flourish in this type of nurturing environment, so along with other strong female mentors, I organize events to talk to young women about peer pressure, self-empowerment and body image in order to enable the next generation to open up and share their feelings and know they are not alone.”
