One of the most important principals in Sharon Riser’s life is giving back to the community.
As CEO of The Temple Frederick & Annapolis Paul Mitchell Partner Schools and co-owner of Paul Mitchell the School Miami, Riser and her schools have raised nearly $200,000 for local and national charities since 2010. Along with her husband, she also has supported and contributed to over 30 different organizations in the community, including the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, the Women’s Giving Circle and the Frederick Festival of the Arts. “That, to me, is success,” she said.
The Temple schools are private, career schools for rising beauty professionals.
“One of the most important principles in my professional life is mentoring women,” Riser said. “I strive to provide opportunities and encouragement to my employees in the areas of education, civic responsibility and personal achievement.”
She takes particular pride in an employee who started with the school at age 17, and after years of mentorship and training, was named co-director at age 30.
Riser has received numerous awards through the Paul Mitchell Advanced Education program and was the keynote speaker at the 2016 Entrepreneur Council of Frederick County’s awards gala. She is a board member of the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation.
Riser was raised by a single mother who often struggled financially, which she said taught her to define and follow her own path.
“To inspire others, you need to show by example not just in your business life, but your personal life as well,” she said.
