Robyn Christine Gilden is a national leader in environmental health nursing.

Gilden, assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing parlays her research in the health effects of pesticides and other chemical exposures into active membership of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pesticide Program Dialog Committee and the national Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments.

Gilden also is a statewide advocate for a chemical-free environment and testifies on the topic before the Maryland General Assembly.

She is director of the innovative, online Environmental Health Nursing Certificate — the first in the country.

In this role, she has mentored hundreds of nursing students nationwide to develop knowledge and advocacy skills in environmental health.

“I am wholly dedicated to using my research to protect children from environmental exposures,” Gilden said. “In my teaching, research, mentoring and advocacy — on a personal and professional level — it is who I am.”
