Court of Appeals disbars lawyer who spied on tenants

A day after hearing arguments in the attorney discipline hearing of a Chevy Chase lawyer who secretly videotaped female tenants living in his home, the Court of Appeals ruled on Friday to disbar the attorney. Dennis A. Van Dusen, who was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2012, received a sentence of five years’ probation and a $2,500 fine in July 2013. He was arrested in 2012 after one of his tenants discovered a camera hidden inside a smoke detector placed over her bed, and police found sexually explicit images of many tenants after searching his computers and hard drives. The Attorney Grievance Commission, acting through Bar Counsel, filed a petition for disciplinary or remedial action against Van Dusen in April of last year, and a three-day trial before a Montgomery County Circuit Court judge was held last fall.
