Audit faults Judiciary’s controls

The Maryland Judiciary has failed to keep adequate inventory records of the Maryland State Law Library’s $12.6 million worth of rare books and art, and judicial-branch employees threw out about $4.7 million worth of computer equipment without first determining if it was salvageable, legislative auditors concluded in a report released Monday.

UM Ventures technology license granted

University of Maryland Ventures, a joint research commercialization effort of the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Maryland, College Park, and Baltimore-based SilcsBio LLC, a supplier of computer-directed drug discovery software and services, announced that SilcsBio has obtained exclusive rights to a technology licensed from UMB.

Audit finds accounting issues at Enoch Pratt

Baltimore auditors presented a report on the Enoch Pratt Free Library Wednesday that, among other things, showed the institution owed the city close to $30,000 in fines and fees collected during fiscal 2011 and lacked sufficient accountability over a $300,000 cash fund set up to purchase books.
