Judge limits logo-artist’s suit over ‘Madden NFL’

Frederick E. Bouchat faxed a sketch of the above logo to the Baltimore Ravens’ offices in 1996. In 1998, a federal jury found the ‘Flying B’ logo (shown below) infringed on Bouchat’s sketch and the team changed its logo.

Frederick E. Bouchat, the security guard whose design was used in the Baltimore Ravens’ original “Flying B” logo, has lost his latest copyright infringement suit against NFL Properties LLC over the use of the logo in Electronics Arts Inc.’s “Madden NFL” video games.

NFL, Ravens must pay royalties to logo artist

Frederick E. Bouchat, the security guard whose design was used in the Baltimore Ravens’ original “Flying B” Ravens logo, will receive a one-time permanent royalty of $721.65 for the sale of the team’s highlight films from 1996 through 1998 and $100 for every time a video clip showing the Flying B logo is shown on the scoreboard at Ravens home games.
