Md. high court weighs whether judges must provide privacy option for would-be jurors

It’s essential lawyers and judges continue to advise a Maryland State Bar Association committee on its draft of model voir dire questions, according to committee co-chair Paul Mark Sandler, who noted the bench and bar have different goals during the jury-selection process.

Before questioning prospective jurors about their biases, judges must tell them they can give potentially embarrassing answers privately at the bench rather than before the entire courtroom, a criminal-defense attorney told Maryland’s top court Thursday.
