New incubator program assists fledgling solo practitioners

Maya Zegarra, a recent University of Baltimore School of Law graduate, is launching her solo practice focusing on immigration law with the help of the Law Entrepreneurs for Access Program a legal incubator created by the state’s law schools, bar association and Civil Justice Inc. “I thought, ‘This is the perfect chance to try to do this,’” she says. ‘This is a way for me to give back to the community, as well, doing what I enjoy.’

Small business ‘boot camp’ to address legal concerns of entrepreneurs

Pro Bono Resource Center executive director Sharon Goldsmith was talking recently with a woman who was interested in opening a daycare for disabled and elderly people to fill an unmet need she saw in the Baltimore community. Like many who contemplate launching a business, the woman wasn’t sure exactly what this endeavor would entail, Goldsmith said, but she was able to give her a suggested first step: register for a new “Pro Bono Small Business Boot Camp” to be held May 2 at Waverly Elementary School in the city.
