We’ve all seen our fair share of ribbon cuttings. Leaders of a new business will gather with local officials in front of the new establishment. They draw attention to a long decorative strip of fabric, smile and pose for the cameras, and snip the ribbon with a shiny, sharp and often oversized pair of scissors, metaphorically freeing the establishment to open for business as the severed strip of fabric falls slowly to the ground.
